DPF Light On – Anti Pollution Light On – Orange Light On Dashboard?
DPF Light On? What Does it Mean?
When your DPF Light comes on, you can be assured that it will give you a shiver to your bones! The dreaded little light comes on and your vehicle may go into “limp mode”. This is when the car suddenly looses power and starts to “limp” to get you home.
DPF issues are one of the most common telephone calls we get into Swansea Tyre Clutch & MOT Centre. This is due to the Exhaust Gas Regeneration that is a part of the latest diesel engined vehicles aspiration process. A DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) will filter particulates coming out of the engine to stop them entering the atmosphere. The only problem is, when you do lots of short journeys, the DPF does not get hot enough to regenerate (burn the soot and carbon off) and the DPF then becomes blocked.
We can fix this issue for you. The process depends on the type of blockage you have.
Soot accumulation is cleaned using our on-car cleaning service. This is the natural accumulation that all DPF’s experience in general usage. The cost for this type of clean is £120 including VAT.
If you have been driving around for extended periods of time with the DPF light on, you may find that this process won’t completely clear the issue. On this instance, the only choice is replacement or off vehicle pulse cleaning.
This is normally down to poor servicing of the vehicle or low quality oil. We always advise using low ash fully synthetic oils. Unfortunately, this cannot be cleared whilst the DPF is on the vehicle. We will need to remove the DPF and pulse clean it or replace it.
